The Arden Syntax for Medical Logic Systems

The Arden Syntax for Medical Logic Modules (MLMs) is a language for encoding medical knowledge. Each Medical Logic Module (MLM) contains sufficient logic to make a single medical decision. MLMs have been used to generate clinical alerts, interpretations, diagnoses, screening for clinical research, quality assurance unctions, and administrative support. With an appropriate computer program (known as an event monitor), MLMs run automatically, generating advice where and when it is needed.

The GuideLine Interchange Format (GLIF) -- Towards A Representation for Sharable Guidelines

GLIF is a specification for structured representation of guidelines. It was developed by the InterMed Collaboratory in order to

facilitate sharing of clinical guidelines. GLIF was designed to be:

Precise
Non-ambiguous
Human-readable
Computable (in the sense that guidelines specified in GLIF may be used for computer-based decision support)
Independent of computing platforms (thus enabling sharing of guidelines)

GEM: The Guideline Elements Model

GEM is an XML- based guideline document model that can store and organize the heterogeneous information contained in practice guidelines. It is intended to facilitate translation of natural language guideline documents into a format that can be processed by computers.

Protégé-2000

An integrated ontology and knowledge-base editing environment. It provides an open-source, extensible architecture for the creation of customized knowledge-based tools in Java. It contains:

A tool which allows the user to:

construct a domain ontology
customize knowledge-acquisition forms
enter domain knowledge

A platform which can be extended with graphical widgets for tables, diagrams, animation components to access other knowledge-based systems embedded applications;
A library which other applications can use to access and display knowledge bases.
